The plan for Alioth in 2019
- April: Newport, Rhode Island, USA, launch and final preparations for the voyage. ✔️
- May: sail from Newport to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. ✔️
- July: sail from Halifax to St Pierre and Miquelon, French islands South of Newfoundland.✔️
- July: sail from St Pierre, via Labrador, to Nuuk, Greenland, then Ilulissat, Greenland.✔️
- August - September: attempt the Northwest Passage: Ilulissat to Seward, Alaska, USA.
Attempting to sail the Northwest is one of our major goals.
Vincent and Olivier reconnected with Jean, a childhood friend, on the deck of Alioth a few years ago.
Vincent Moeyersoms: Owner, Co-Skipper.
Born in Brussels in 1958, living in Stowe, Vermont, USA.
Chief operating officer of the America3 team, winner of the America’s Cup in 1992.
Veteran of the Whitbread Round the World Race and Superyacht regattas. Multiple world champion in Maxis and 12 Meters.
Cruised extensively before owning Alioth.
Olivier Moeyersoms: Owner, Co-Skipper.
Born in Brussels in 1963, living not far from Brussels.
Olivier followed in the steps of his older brother. During the 80s, he raced on half-tonners and class 8s, mostly in the North Sea. Since then, with family and friends, he has been bareboat chartering a variety of yachts in Europe, Canada, Antilles, Seychelles, and the United States.
Jean Englebert: Crew Member.
Born in Brussels in 1961, living in Nieuwpoort, Belgium.
For more than 20 years, he led and animated the yachting market in Belgium and Holland.
Owner of Ship Shop (importing agent of the brands Beneteau, Lagoon and CNB), he recently sold his businesses to be able to sail.
The boat - Alioth
French made aluminum, the AZZURO 53 is a sailboat 17 m lifting keel designed by Berret-Racoupeau. Alioth was launched in 2009 and has nearly 75,000 miles, nearly three rounds of the world.
Since the end of 2015, the brothers Moeyersoms (Vincent and Olivier) sail aboard Alioth in Norway, Ireland, Scotland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Brittany, Spain, Portugal, Madeira, Cape Verde; a deckchair leads them to the West Indies, Bahamas, New York, Boston and Maine in June 2018.
He spent the winter of 2018-19 underway in Rhode Island to prepare for his next expedition: the Northwest Passage attempt this summer of 2019.
The yacht - Alioth
The AZZURO 53 aluminum is a 17 m sailing yacht with a keel designed by Berret-Racoupeau. Alioth was launched in 2009 and has since sailed 75,000 miles, or approximately three times around the world.
Since the end of 2015, the Moeyersoms brothers (Vincent and Olivier) have sailed Alioth in the North Sea, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, France, Spain, Portugal, Madeira, the Canaries and Cape Verde Islands, across the Atlantic, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, New York, and New England.
The yacht spent the 2018-19 winter in Rhode Island hauled and getting refitted for its next expedition - attempting the Northwest Passage during the 2019 summer.
