Having taken to the water last year at Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) in Ancona, Italy, the shipyard’s fourth motor yacht in its elegant Nauta Air range has now been handed over to her owner and will be cruising the world under the name Hyhmä.
For this fourth project in the line, Dutch studio Vripack were chosen for their naval architecture know-how while the Milanese designers at Nauta Yachts are behind both the exterior and interior design of Hyhmä. Built for an experienced yachtsman who will be using the yacht to travel through the Northwest Passage as well as extensive cruising on both sides of the Atlantic, Hyhmä’s stylish go-anywhere profile that makes her look at home in both French Riviera marinas as well as deep ocean swell.
“With M/Y Hyhmä we have reached a perfect formula, merging northern European engineering with Italian style and flexibility in managing a multicultural team of highly skilled professionals,” says Vasco Buonpensiere, Co-founder and Sales and Marketing Director at CdM. “With a common target represented by the will of allowing this very special owner/friend to cruise the Northwest Passage and documenting the marine wildlife during the trip, we have created an explorer vessel which – as nature does – combines beauty and strength seamlessly in perfect harmony,” he continues.
For a safe and enjoyable experience at sea, the Nauta Air 111 is built with a solid steel hull measuring between 20 and 22 mm from the waterline level and below. In addition, Hyhmä has been fitted with several redundant systems, a long-range fuel storage facility and extensive storage solutions on deck and inside.
Hyhmä is designed to accommodate up to 12 guests and the layout takes on a conventional on-deck full-beam master with a four-cabin lower deck layout. As this will very much be used as a family boat, the interior has been designed around an open family plan, but designers Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino also kept future charter use in mind with clever separations in the accommodation areas and an easy-to-remember flow throughout the four guest decks on board.
On a technical level, Hyhmä’s globe-trotting intentions are echoed in the impressive cruising specifications that come along with this pocket explorer’s credentials. Two economical Caterpillar C18 heavy-duty engines have been installed that can push the yacht up to a respectable speed of 13 knots when needed. Most impressive, though, is the 5,500 nm range that she can achieve when maintaining a slower cruising speed of 9 knots.
