SHORT ANSWER: WAITING ON SEA ICE.
FROM ALASKA GOING EAST
Sea ice blockage prevents a prudent transit attempt at the USA-CANADA border DO NOT attempt until a wider open sea berth allows safe transiting before weather could close with sea/pack ice moving to the south... forcing a vessel into shore shallows with a potential grounding and/or capsizing.
WAIT ELSON LAGOON and enjoy Barrow before proceeding east to Herschel Island Canada
FROM GREENLAND GOING WEST
Open Baffin Bay waters allows transits to Pond Inlet or Arctic Bay then with some patience may continue to Beechey Island.
DO NOT ATTEMPT advancing in Prince Regent to Bellot Strait at this time.
Regarding Route 7 West - it will open the first week of September - recommend advancing first to Cape Dorset before advancing to Hall Beach and Igloolik. The opening may be brief and it important to be properly staged to move on a day's notice.
