The RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) is Canada's new generation of Earth observation satellites. Launched on , the three identical satellites will work together to bring solutions to key challenges for Canadians.

Canada Ice Service fails to provide timely sea ice charts during Arctic minimum sea ice navigation season, even with three (3) radarsat earth observation satellites.

Ships navigate the dangerous Arctic sea ice during the minimum sea ice season between March and October. The sea ice minimum has been occuring later in recent years because of a longer melt season.

With the June 2019 addition of a third radarsat satellite, Canada Ice Service has failed to provide timely sea ice charts during the minimum sea ice melt season when ships are navigating Arctic waters.

Examples of sea ice charts void of useful and timely sea ice information:

McClure Strait

Parry Channel - NOT ONE ICE CHART WAS PUBLISHED IN 2019

Labrador
Hudson Strait
Davis Strait

Foxe Basin - NOTE LAST PUBLICATION DATE - OPEN WATERS

HERE ARE THE EAST AND WEST REGIONAL ICE CHARTS AS OF SEPTEMBER 9, 2019

WHY ARE THE ABOVE AREA CHARTS NOT STILL BEING PUBLISHED?

WHY ARE THE LAST PUBLISHED CHARTS NOT NOTATED AS THE "LAST" AND CONTAIN THE LAST ICE DATA?

SEA ICE REMAINS IN MANY LOCATIONS - WITHOUT TIMELY ICE CHARTS
SHIPS ARE ATTEMPTING DANGEROUS NAVIGATION WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF ICE CHARTS -  THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT RESCUE IS WITH GOOD INFORMATION TO AVOID DANGEROUS CONDITIONS.

PLEASE EMAIL CANADA ICE SERVICE AND REQUEST MINIMUM ICE SEASON CHARTS BE PUBLISHED FOR ALL AREAS.

CANADA HAS THE SATELLITES - USE THEM - AND PUBLISH THE FULL PORTFOLIO OF SEA ICE INFORMATION.
